Greater Manchester Care Village Raises Over £1,000 With Sponsored Cycle To Blackpool

Staff at Belong Atherton, the state-of-the-art care village in Atherton, Greater Manchester, have raised over £1,000 by completing a sponsored bike ride from Atherton to Blackpool. The funds will go towards purchasing specialist ‘Vecta’ equipment for the village. The equipment can transform any room into a multisensory, therapeutic environment for people receiving end of life care.

The sponsored cycle ride began at Belong Atherton, where the staff were waved off by residents and other staff members. The team then cycled a distance of 49 miles to Blackpool, which they completed in just over seven hours.

The effort was sponsored by family members of residents at Belong Atherton, staff, visitors and members of the local community. A local pub, The Canal Turn, also had a collection which raised £135 on the day. The amount raised in sponsorship will go towards the £3,000 target needed to purchase the Vecta equipment. Other fundraising activities are being planned.

You can donate to the fund to purchase the Vecta equipment by visiting Belong Atherton’s Just Giving page at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/gemma-willetts2
