Grant Helps Wallace House ‘Grow’

JpegResidents at a Gateshead care home are putting their horticulture skills to the test, after benefiting from a grant by Gateshead Council.

The grant money, which was awarded last year, has been used to redevelop the garden area at Wallace House, on Ravensworth Road, giving its residents the opportunity to take part in further activities on the home’s grounds.

As a result of the redevelopment, residents have been able to plant their own fruit and vegetable crops and manage their own raised beds.

Sally Adam, Manager at Wallace House, said: “At Wallace House we are always looking at ways to provide our residents with further activities and projects, so it is fantastic that we are now in a position to incorporate the gardening area into our activities schedule.

“The redevelopment of the gardening area has given our residents the perfect opportunity to spend some time outside and is a well-received leisure activity here at the home.”

Operated by Akari Care, Wallace House provides nursing care for up to 39 elderly residents.
