Free Abbotswood Court Event Is Helping Carers Know Their Rights And Access Support

FreeOn November 29, an event at Abbotswood Court in Romsey will raise awareness of support available for local carers. With expert speakers from Hampshire County Council and The Princess Royal Trust for Carers.

Expert speakers will be sharing their know-how to help carers get the vital support they are entitled to at a special coffee morning event at Abbotswood Court on November 29. The event, at 10.30 am – 12pm on Thursday, November 29, is ahead of Carers Rights Day on November 30. This annual day, organised by the charity Carers UK, brings together organisations from across the country to help and advise carers in their local communities

Three key organisations have been invited in to talk to residents’ family members, as well as carers from the local community, about their rights, and the support available to them locally. Speakers at the free event will be:

Sue Pidduck, Head of Transformation, Design and Implementation for Adult’s Health and Care at Hampshire County Council, who will be speaking about how the council supports and promotes the rights of carers, particularly those who care for the elderly;

Jenny Little of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers in Hampshire, who will be offering specific information and examples of the support the Trust provides as the contract holder with Hampshire County Council;

And Terry Bishop, Chief Executive of Unity Volunteering, who will be speaking about how Unity can help carers.

Gemma Ridout Bowden, General Manager of Abbotswood Court, said:

“Here at Abbotswood Court, as well as residential care, we offer day care and respite care, so we work with many families caring for loved ones at home.

“With so much time and energy devoted to the day-to-day needs of their loved ones, it can be extremely difficult for them to research the support they might be entitled to; as much as they need it, they often don’t know where to begin.

“We hope this event will be of real benefit, not just to the families we know, but also carers from the wider community too.”

Carers who wish to attend this free event are encouraged to RSVP  via Eventbrite – www.carersrightscoffeemorning.eventbrite.co.uk or email abbotswood@cinnamoncc.com.
