Evening At The Races For Care Home Residents

EveningA fantastic night was had by residents and staff from St Mary’s Court residential care home in Bocking when they went to Chelmsford City Racecourse as part of the home’s varied activities programme.

The evening out was suggested by St Mary’s Court resident Malcolm Whitehead, who is an ex bookie.  He said: “I very much enjoyed the evening as horse racing was very much part of my upbringing as I used to work for Ladbrokes.”

Jo Crosby, Head of Activities at St Mary’s Court, said: “We all had such a wonderful night, especially as Malcolm explained to us all about the betting process so we had a better idea of what we were doing.

“Everyone had a flutter and there was even a horse named St Mary running we bet on, but sadly it did not win.”

St Mary’s Court, near Braintree, offers a wide variety of activities for its residents to enjoy, from playing pool to summer fetes and trips out into the local area.
