Epic 12-Hour Treadmill Run Raises Funds on Elf Day at Waterfield House Care Home

Residents, staff, and relatives at Waterfield House care home, part of the Runwood Homes group, joined forces for an extraordinary Elf Day celebration as Chloe, a member of the domestic team, took on the challenge of running on a treadmill for 12 consecutive hours to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Chloe demonstrated incredible determination, while the care home community rallied around her to show their support.

The day featured a range of activities to keep spirits high and residents engaged. The morning kicked off with a sing-along featuring beloved classics, creating a lively and festive atmosphere. Residents of Waterfield House enjoyed their lunch in the café to keep Chloe company and offer encouragement, while the afternoon brought a sports-themed quiz, adding fun and interaction to the day.

Relatives, staff, and residents all played a vital role in the success of the event. Many gathered in the café to cheer Chloe on and generously donated to the cause, contributing to a shared sense of purpose and achievement.

The Alzheimer’s Society holds a special significance for the Waterfield House care home, and the residents took great pride in raising funds for such an important cause.

Home Manager Sue Smith expressed her admiration for Chloe’s efforts: When Chloe asked if she could run for 12 hours on the treadmill, I thought she was joking! It has been a fabulous day and a great talking point for all. She has raised over £150 for a fantastic cause close to our hearts.”

Resident Hazel also reflected on the event, saying, just shows what you can do when you put your mind to it.”
