Elderly Have The X Factor In Care Home Talent Competition

AN X FACTOR style talent show came to a Chester-le-Street care home – with ABBA, Spice Girls and Beyonce tributes.

Pelton Grange Care Home’s manager, Les Burnett, even got involved as ‘Pelton’ John, with the judges telling him: “Don’t give up your day job.”

The judging panel consisted of resident Doris Theobald, a resident’s relative Margaret Fullerton, and home administrator Margaret Flower.

They kept to The X Factor theme of brutal honesty when giving their feedback on the performances of staff, relatives and residents.

After YMCA by a Village People tribute act, Doris said: “I’d like to be arrested by that policeman.”

The audience was taken on an emotional rollercoaster when resident Sarah Atkinson performed White Cliffs of Dover with deputy home manager Chris Hogan-Mind.

Sarah was originally going to duet with fellow resident Muriel Henderson, who sadly passed away in November, so the song was dedicated in her memory.

Home manager Les said: “This is one of the best events we’ve held so far this year.

“Seeing the residents faces as they enjoyed the singing was priceless.

“It was also fabulous to see how many family members came to share in the fun.”
