Double Open Day Celebration Is Best Yet!

A double celebration to mark National Care Home Open Day has been hailed as the best event yet by a local care company.

Saint Cecilia’s Care Services held open day events at both Saint Cecilia’s Care Home on Stepney Road and Saint Cecilia’s Nursing Home on Filey Road, on Friday.

VIP guests, entertainers, visitors, family and friends all called in during the day, at both centres, to make it a day to remember.

Managing Director Mike Padgham said: “This was undoubtedly our best open day celebration so far. Both centres were buzzing, we had lots of guests and it was absolutely brilliant.

“This was once again a great way for us to join care homes up and down the country to showcase the work that goes on in caring for older and vulnerable adults.

“We are really grateful to all the VIPs, guests, entertainers, friends and family and of course the residents and our own staff for making it such a wonderful day.”

BBC television personality Harry Gration and the Mayor and Mayoress of Scarborough, Councillor and Mrs Martin Smith all visited both centres during the day.

During the event Saint Cecilia’s made a donation to the Mayoress’s fund.

There was food and entertainment, pamper sessions, music and circus skills in a session run by the SJT OutReach team at the care home. The nursing home held a garden fete on the same day, to raise money for its residents’ fund.

Saint Cecilia’s added the nursing home – formerly Queen Margaret’s Nursing home – to its family in January this year. It has 44 bedrooms and provides 24-hour nursing care, looking after people with acute and life-limiting illnesses. Saint Cecilia’s Care Home on Stepney Road provides residential care for up to 21 people and specialises in caring for those with dementia and confusion. The company also has Saint Cecilia’s Day Care centre at Eastway in Eastfield, Scarborough, which offers friendly, fun and compassionate day and respite care, including activities, home-cooked food and companionship.

  • National Care Home Open Day is a UK-wide initiative encouraging care homes to open their doors to their local communities to both showcase the care provided and to help create links between those homes and their local communities. Last year more than 4,300 care homes took part.
