Derby Care Home Celebrates St Andrew’s Day with Staff and Residents

Staff and residents at a Derby care home brought out the tartan blankets and Scottish flags to celebrate St Andrew’s Day.

MHA Willowcroft, in Spondon, decorated their home in Scottish flags, and it was well received by both residents and staff members.

Willowcroft is a 60 place residential and dementia care home in Spondon, Derby, and has recently undergone a £135,000 refurbishment.

Saint Andrew’s Day, also called the Feast of Saint Andrew or Andermas, is the feast day of Andrew the Apostle and is celebrated on 30 November.

Reverend Paul Hygate, chaplain at the home, said: “We have been planning the St Andrew’s Day celebrations for a while now and it’s been great to get the staff and residents together and be part of the celebrations.

“Here at MHA Willowcroft we do try to mark all four of the home nation’s Saint Days, and we have some Scottish staff and residents amongst us, so we feel it’s important to celebrate something which is very significant to them.

“To mark the day, we had Scottish hats and tartan blankets and everyone really did enjoy it.

“It was something different, everyone was in good spirits and going forward we will continue to keep doing something to mark the day.”
