Dementia Carers Count at 10 Downing Street
A delegation from Dementia Carers Count handed in a collection of dementia carers’ testimonials to the Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer yesterday (May 22).
Over 75% of dementia carers have no alternative plans in place if they’re not there to care. This causes great anxiety and often prevents carers from getting healthcare and treatment for themselves.
This Dementia Action Week Dementia Carers Count are sharing carers’ experiences of not having alternative care arrangements in place and their worries about the future, and are campaigning for carers to get the support they need to care today and to plan for tomorrow.
They are calling for the implementation of national carers’ strategies.
These should outline carers’ rights and the support all carers should receive. What exists on paper must be delivered in practice. This will only be possible through the sustainable funding of adult social care.
