Dancing Teens Get Elderly Active

TEENAGERS and elderly care home residents have been dancing together as part of a community project in Bolton.

Members of the Bolton Lads and Girls Club (BLGC) National Citizen Service (NCS) organised a day of activities for those living at Lever Edge Care Home, on Lever Edge Lane.

The volunteers included Klaudia Zimmerman, Abi Earnshaw, Jaydon Stanford Taylor and Bradley Rising, all aged 15 to 17 years old.

They performed a dance routine, which got residents on their feet and joining in, and organised activities such as card games, skittles and softball, among others.

They also put on a buffet for residents, including a selection of sandwiches, crisps and cakes.

The day was part of their social action project, which involves fundraising and making a difference within their community.

Karen Edwards OBE, BLGC chief executive, said: “Every year we have around 700 young people take part in Bolton Lads and Girls Club NCS programme.

“Part of this includes young people organising some kind of community social action. Some of them chose to entertain the residents at Levers edge Care Home with a music and activities afternoon.

“The young people worked really hard to organise and plan the day, sorting out music and playing games. Both young and old really enjoyed the day.

“The young people said they were “buzzin” and loved the day.”

Sophie Gardiner, regional manager for the Hill Care Group, which operates Lever Edge Care Home, said: “The residents all thoroughly enjoyed themselves and loved chatting to the young people.

“They brought so much energy into the home, which you could clearly see when the residents got up and joined in the dancing.

“A massive thank you to the BLGC and its young volunteers for visiting the home and organising such a wonderful afternoon of activities for our residents.”
