Conquering A Cross Border 100-Mile Cycle For Macmillan

A CROSS border 100-mile bike ride was completed by a care home quality manager to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

60-year-old Lynn Walter cycled from Carlisle, Cumbria, across the border to Scotland and finished at Cramond Beach, Edinburgh.

She raised £550 for the Macmillan Cancer Support, the chosen charity of her employer, the Hill Care Group, based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire.

Lynn was joined by 11 members of her cycling club, DOBS and FOBS CC, in The Wirral, for the ride, which took seven hours and 45 minutes.

Lynn said: “I wanted to do the challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support because my dear friend and neighbor is currently being supported by Macmillan nurses.

“I expected the ride to be very hard, especially as it’s overnight. I worried about staying awake but I managed it.

“I’m used to cycling up to 50 to 60 miles on a regular basis, but this was a lot more miles. There was also a seven-mile-long hill, just after the food stop at 50 miles, which was a challenge.

“I’m so pleased with the amount we managed to raise for Macmillan, a charity close to the hearts of everyone at Hill Care. I was glad to do my bit for the group, as we aim to raise thousands this year to support those with cancer and their loved ones.”

Macmillan Cancer Support is the Hill Care Group’s chosen charity for 2019/20, with dozens of care homes across the north of England raising funds with events and activities throughout the year.

Last year, the group raised over £7,000 for the Stroke Association and, in 2017/18, over £10,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
