Brunelcare launch ongoing volunteering opportunities to help tenants, residents and guests
Brunelcare, a charity providing housing, care and support for older people in the South West for nearly 80-years, has launched several ongoing volunteering opportunities to help it’s tenants, residents and guests through these more challenging times. The Community Behind Closed initiative is recruiting volunteers for a number of exciting roles across the charity.
The charity has six different community volunteering initiatives that people can sign up to, each with a different focus on core areas across Brunelcare. One opportunity; Friends on the Phone, will see a much anticipated telephone befriending service launch between the community and our Sheltered Housing Sites, Community Clients and Extra Care Housing Sites. This allows the people we care for to talk on the phone to passionate volunteers to prevent people feeling isolated at this difficult time.
Drive to Care is another volunteering opportunity that will see Brunelcare employees and the wider community coming together to offer lifts to and from work for our carers, nurses and support workers across the organisation to prevent the use of public transport. The opportunity is also asking for wider community volunteers to transport much needed supplies between our sites across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and Somerset.
Emma Gwynne, Volunteering Development Manager at Brunelcare said: “We already have so many amazing activities going on within each of our Brunelcare sites, however we realise that our clients may be feeling more isolated than ever at this time. We decided to launch an ongoing volunteering initiative to help the charity during this difficult time and to support the people we care for across the organisation. This will continue for as long as it’s needed.”
Another opportunity is to Help your Neighbour, this will see people from the local community of each of our Care Homes, Extra Care Housing or Sheltered Housing sites, deliver vital supplies such as food, medicine or other items to our residents and tenants across Brunelcare.
Brunelcare also has a volunteering initiative named, Become a PenPal which will see a call to action for the community to come together to write letters and start penpal relationships with tenants and residents. The initiative enables a variety of different age groups to get involved and volunteer their time.
The final opportunities, Volunteer to Care and Calling all Professionals, will give the opportunity for volunteer carers to help colleagues, residents and tenants across our sites and also allow professionals from a variety of different backgrounds, such as Admin, IT and HR to come onboard with us at Brunelcare.
