A Chesterfield care home has beaten off tough competition to be named East Midlands Regional Care Team of 2014 at the Great British Care Awards dinner.

Staff at Springbank House care home, part of the Hill Care group, scooped the prestigious prize at a regional awards ceremony in Nottingham after they were shortlisted in the final six from more than 70 applications.

The highly sought-after Care Team award recognises staff who are able to best display a shared vision and agreed goals, demonstrate excellent communication skills and a commitment to dignity and privacy for home residents.

The Springbank House team, who work with residents and their families to provide bespoke, care plans to suit their individual needs, will now go on to the National Awards Finals in London in April next year.

Operations Director for Hill Care, Mandy Vernon, said: “I would like to congratulate home manager Dorothy Mbulo and her team on this fantastic achievement. I wanted to recognise their hard work and dedication by nominating them for this award on behalf of the relatives and residents at Springbank.”

Home Manager Dorothy, who attended the ceremony and collected the award along with a number of fellow colleagues, said: “We were delighted to receive this honour; I am extremely proud of the entire team and we are all very much looking forward to attending the national awards ceremony in 2015.

“Our residents come first in everything we do and we work to involve them, and their families, in the planning and running of the home to ensure we are meeting their needs and exploring ways in which we can continue to improve the care we provide – it’s great our efforts have made a difference.”
