Care Staff Back Alzheimer Scotland Match Behind The Scenes

A team from Hamberley Care Homes stepped beyond their day-to-day roles to support a major charity football event, highlighting how care staff are extending their impact into the wider community.

Staff from Newton House Care Home, North Greenlaw Way, were part of the behind-the-scenes effort at Broadwood Stadium during the Alzheimer Scotland Shooting Stars match, helping to support volunteers who made the fundraising event possible.

Rather than focusing on the action on the pitch, the team’s contribution centred on care, coordination and ensuring those giving their time were looked after.

Led by Home Ambassador Megan Spicer, the group organised freshly baked goodies for volunteers working throughout the day.

Megan said she was delighted to support the event. She added: “It was an amazing atmosphere, and everyone was determined to support the event with lots of cheering and big smiles.”

As part of their contribution, the Hamberley Care Home gift bags containing home baking, chocolates and treats aimed at recognising the efforts of volunteers. The bags showcased Newton House Care Home, Newton Mearns as well as Milngavie Manor Care Home, Milngavie.

The event brought together former footballers including Charlie Adam, Lee McCulloch and Nacho Novo, alongside celebrities such as Sanjeev Kohli and Stephen Purdon. The Scotland team was managed by former international boss Alex McLeish.

While the match drew crowds for its star names, the involvement of care staff offered a quieter but significant reminder of the wider community effort behind such events – particularly those supporting causes like Alzheimer Scotland.

Megan added: “It’s wonderful to be able to contribute to an event like this and make sure the people behind the scenes get credit and a big thank you – if it was not for volunteers, events like this simply would not happen.”
