A care home and homecare provider has joined the swell of support across the globe to help communities and animals affected by the Australian bushfires.
The Healthcare Homes Group, which has 37 care homes in East Anglia and the South, along with 12 homecare branches, is encouraging its staff and teams to join fundraising efforts, hosting events within their communities.
A number of homes have arranged fundraising activities to coincide with the official Australia Day at the end of January, and are inviting local people, friends, relatives and staff to join them in coming together to raise money for the Australian Red Cross.
In Suffolk, coffee mornings will be held at a number of homes and in Norfolk, Meadow House nursing home is hosting an Australia-themed day, with staff in fancy dress and activities including a kangaroo hope race, a themed Australia quiz, a raffle, ‘name the koala’ and a treasure hunt.
Anthony Beorby, Operations Director (Care Homes), Healthcare Homes Group said, “We have been absolutely devastated by the images we’re seeing from Australia. We can only imagine what the local communities are going through when dealing with this unprecedented natural disaster, and it is awful to see the impact this is having on the natural landscape and the country’s incredible wildlife.
“As a group, we have a strong commitment to charitable causes and many of our homes proudly fundraise throughout the year. We’ve therefore been very keen to show our support in whatever way we can. I would ask anyone near to a home that is hosting a fundraising event to consider popping along, or to join our efforts in contributing to the Australian Red Cross, which is doing such wonderful work to support those affected.”
