Care Home’s Macmillan Fundraising Is A Cut Above

cutA close shave for team members at a Chichester care home has helped to raise more than £2,100 for a cancer charity.

The encounter with the clippers, at Colten Care’s Wellington Grange, was part of the annual Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Braving the shave in front of an audience of residents were Clinical Lead Carmen Flueras, Customer Advisor Richard Upshall, Healthcare Assistant Emily Lawrence and Waiter Will Barber.

Hairdresser and Activity Organiser Rachel Graves praised their courage, adding: “It was an amazing effort by our brave shavers to raise awareness and as much money as possible for Macmillan. Everyone was in full support and very generous with their donations.”

As well as the head shave, the Wellington Grange coffee morning featured homemade cakes specially baked by the home’s chefs.

There was also a raffle with prizes donated by families and friends of the home and a number of businesses around Chichester.

The overall amount raised for Macmillan on the day was £2,125.05.

Resident Jose Allman said: “It was lovely to do such a great event. This is a cause close to my heart after losing my daughter through having breast cancer.”

Fellow resident Jo Ward said: “Macmillan were amazing support for me and my late husband during his battle with cancer. They weren’t just staff – all the team at Macmillan became my friends. I couldn’t have got through it without them.”

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is part of a global fundraising campaign by the Macmillan Cancer Support charity. The aim is to help ensure that no one has to face cancer alone.
