Care Home Residents Prepare for Remembrance Day with Handmade Poppies and Wreaths

Residents at a London based care home have been using their artistic skills to produce handmade poppies and wreaths in preparation for Remembrance Day.

MHA Lawnfield House will be hosting a remembrance service on Remembrance Sunday and will be using the handmade decorations including poppies and wreaths.

The Willesden based home provides residential care for up to 41 residents living with dementia.

The service will take place on Friday November 11 from 11am at the home.

Carmel Collins, activity coordinator said: “The residents have really enjoyed making the wreaths and poppies.

“They have enjoyed painting the wreaths in various designs as well as using items such as cake cases and sticking them on.

“A lot of our residents are of that age where they remember the war and it’s been amazing listening to their stories and memories.

“They have been talking to one another about their experiences and I do feel this activity has brought them together.

“All the items we have used to make the poppies and wreaths are from previous activities which also helped to bring back some happy memories for residents.

“The Remembrance Day service is open to the community, and we are hoping to have plenty of family and friends coming to see what we have done and pay their respects.”
