Care Home Residents Have A Ball As They Try Their Hand At Padel
Five residents in their 80s living at Trafford Waters Care Home in TraffordCity, Manchester; are proving that age is no barrier to new experiences, as they stepped onto the padel court for the very first time.
Ranked as the world’s fastest-growing sport, Padel has taken the UK by storm, with 893 padel courts across 300 venues nationwide, according to the LTA.
The residents took part in an introductory game of padel at The Padel Club in TraffordCity, thanks to the home’s Lifestyle and Wellbeing team, who will stop at nothing to help residents enjoy sociable, active, and engaging activities.
Speaking about her experience, 81-year-old, Ann Williamson said,
“I loved it, it felt brilliant, I was energised and over the moon I was actually able to do it – I’d love to do it again.”
Teammate, 82-year-old Kathleen Wild added, “I used to play bowls and won many trophies in my time. I had a great time playing padel and can’t wait to do it again – I highly recommend it.”
Ellie Wibberley, Home Manager at Trafford Waters Care Home, said,
“Moving into a care home is not just about receiving care, it’s about opening the door to new opportunities, friendships, and experiences, and this get together really demonstrated that.
“Being close to The Padel Club and other facilities is great as it enables residents to integrate and socialise outside the home – everyone had a brilliant time.”
