Care Home Residents Go On The Prowl For Paisley Lions
Age proved no barrier for residents at a Barrhead care home, when they took part in a public art trail around Paisley to “bag” as many pop up lion sculptures as possible.
As part of Paisley’s bid for City of Culture 2021, 27 brightly decorated lions were scattered around the town and residents from Bupa’s Norwood Care Home set out to find them.
Each lion was painted by a local artist and aimed to showcase the town’s heritage and history. As the town’s first, family-friendly public art trail, the local community was encouraged to take part and “bag” as many of the kings of the jungle as they could find, then submit their final scorecard to Paisley Council for the chance to win £100 of town centre vouchers.
The Norwood residents successfully found and took photos with a total of 10 lions, and even had the pleasure of meeting Lord Provost Anne Hall on their travels.
Marc Tuffley, Home Manager at Bupa’s Norwood Care Home, said: “When the residents heard about the lion trail, despite not being quite as young as they once were, they were determined to give it a go.
“It was a really fun day out and everyone was delighted to have had the opportunity to take part. Successfully bagging a total of ten lions was also a great added bonus.
“The residents especially enjoyed seeing all the different designs from the various local artists. It was lovely to see the town looking so bright and colourful, and we’re all very excited about Paisley’s bid to be City of Culture 2021.”
Each lion will be auctioned off on the 21st October at The Normandy Hotel, with proceeds split between ACCORD Hospice and St Vincent’s Hospice.
