Care Home Residents Enjoy Charity Day Out On The River

L-R Support worker Shirley Eyles, Service user Rosemary Goodfield, Service user Penelope FoxallResidents at a specialist care home in Ledbury recently enjoyed a day out at sea, thanks to a charity boat trip.

The group of residents from Ledbury Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Specialist care centre, along with their families and care home staff enjoyed the boat trip thanks to The Willow Trust. The charity provides therapeutic days out on the water for children and adults of all ages with learning and physical disabilities, or who are seriously ill.

The group were welcomed aboard at Saul Junction near Frampton in Gloucester, then cruised along the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, with everyone enjoying live music courtesy of local musician, Rey Mytton and taking in the beautiful scenery and surroundings.

Despite some slight rain, spirits weren’t dampened and the group enjoyed an indoor “picnic” before heading back down the canal. Residents were also able to try their hand at steering the boat, under the supervision of the Willow Trust’s fully-trained crew members.

Adam Moreton, Deputy Manager at Ledbury ABI commented: “This was a truly magical day, enabling the people we care for to have quality time with their families away from the care environment.

“We would like to extend our gratitude to the Willow Trust for accommodating all our needs. They are a remarkable charity that provides an invaluable service for those who would not normally be able to have this experience.”

Ledbury ABI is run by Shaw healthcare, and provides care and rehabilitation to people with an acquired brain injury.

Shaw healthcare provides care for individuals in nursing and residential homes, hospitals, supported living environments and domiciliary care schemes.  Its services range from comprehensive care packages through to low level support in the community for older people and adults with physical, sensory or mental health support needs.
