Care Home Residents ‘Come Together’ for Beatles Event

A Blandford care home rang out to the sounds of the Fab Four as residents sang and danced to their favourite Beatles songs.

Residents at Colten Care’s Whitecliffe House in Blandford Forum love singing and even have their own vocal group, The Whitecliffe Warblers.

Companionship team member Debbie Easter explained: “We decided to hold a Beatles morning, so everyone dressed up in Flower Power outfits and we had a great singalong of all the residents’ favourite Fab Four songs.”

She continued: “The Whitecliffe Warblers started the event with some of their favourites including When I’m Sixty-Four and Hey Jude and then we were treated to some wonderful renditions of With a Little Help and She Loves You from staff.

“Residents remember the Beatles very well and picked the songs. They thought the staff’s costumes and fake moustaches were extremely funny and had lots of laughs at our expense!”

Resident Sylvia Drew was particularly tickled by her Yellow Submarine-inspired hat. She said: “We’ve had a lot of fun.”

Debbie continued: “We sang everything from Yellow Submarine to Yesterday, from rock and roll numbers to ballads and we danced and sang our hearts out – no one wanted it to end.

“We finished with a special performance of Blackbird and Lady Madonna by Xander and Kati (corr) Rigby. Kati is our senior administrator and Xander, who plays the guitar beautifully, works in our kitchen.

“Now we’re busy thinking about which band to pick for our next musical morning.”
