Care Home Resident Celebrates 100th Birthday In Pulborough

100A resident has celebrated her 100th birthday at a Pulborough care home.

Elsie Gray’s family organised a party in the gardens of Hillside Lodge care home in celebration of her centenary, where she was joined by her family and fellow residents for a fulsome buffet lunch.

Born in Alton, Hampshire, Elsie was one of four children. She moved to Easebourne where she met her husband – Edward – at Cowdray and they went onto marry when she was 19. They had 12 children and “too many grandchildren to count” Elsie said she “loves being part of a big family”.  She enjoyed working at Cowdry Estate until her retirement and, prior to that, she held other housekeeping positions in a variety of places.

Acting home manager at the Shaw healthcare-run home, Karen Russell, commented: “It’s wonderful to be able to mark such a significant milestone and give Elsie and her family the chance to celebrate together. Elsie moved here in March 2015 and quickly made many friends at the home and we all love to listen to her and the stories she has to tell. We wish her many happy returns on her centenary.”
