Care Home Open Week Sees Homes Across Surrey Open Their Doors To Local Communities
As part of a nationwide event to connect care homes across the country with their local communities, a Surrey care group has opened its doors and hosted a range of themed days and activities to welcome those in the neighbourhood.
The week-long initiative was hosted by Championing Social Care and takes place annually to foster greater community connections for those living and working in social care. Events focused on local healthcare professionals, students interested in working in the healthcare sector, residents’ family and friends, and those who live nearby a care home who are interested in learning more and making new friends.
As part of the initiative, The Summers, in West Molesey, and White Gates, in Laleham-Upon-Thames, hosted tea and cakes for visitors, while Abbey Chase, in Chertsey, held a cheese and wine event for its local community.
CHD Living’s Rehabilitation services also hosted Professional and Education Open Days to help showcase the breadth of support available for those with acquired brain injuries and complex nursing care needs. The open days aimed to build stronger interdisciplinary teams and working relationships, helping to deliver the highest standards of care for residents and the best rehabilitative outcomes.
On CHD Living’s participation, Shaleeza Hasham, Head of Hospitality, Communications and Commissioning, said: “While Care Home Open Week was an amazing success, enabling us to connect with people around our homes, it was also a chance for people to see what life for our residents is really like and dispel some of the myths and misconceptions which may make someone unsure about going into care.”
She continued: “Strong community links are essential for the social care sector. They help our staff and residents to flourish, enabling us to deliver engaging activities and meaningful connections. Life in care should still be fulfilling and enjoyable and this thinking is central to our ethos – ‘creating happiness daily’.”
