Care Home Hosts “Fine Dining” Burns Night

A care home in Glasgow made sure Burns Night was a memorable experience for its residents by hosting a “fine dining” evening.

Darnley Court, on Nitshill Road, prepared a three course menu for its residents and even arranged for a piper to pipe in the haggis.

Dishes included cock-a-leekie soup for starter – with a choice of salmon with mashed potatoes and vegetables or haggis, neeps and tatties with whiskey sauce for main.

For desert, residents had the choice of trifle, oatcakes and cheese, tea and coffee or even a “wee dram”.

Activity coordinator, John Wilde, was also on hand to perform the toast and the Selkirk grace – while the piper treated residents to a medley of traditional Scottish classics.

Home Manager, Tracy Barker, described how the evening was a great success with residents.

She said “It was a great night with fantastic food, drinks and music – and the piper just made it even better.

“All of our residents thoroughly enjoyed themselves and loved celebrating such a patriotic event.

“The haggis was by far the most popular choice of dish – which came as no surprise to anyone.”
