Care Home Couple Celebrate Diamond Wedding Anniversary

A Nottingham couple, who live at Ruddington Manor Care Centre in Wilford, celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary in style with fellow residents, family and friends, as well as receiving a card from the Queen.

Anne and Doug Holland, who lived in East Leek before moving to Ruddington Manor, met in 1958 at a Saturday night dance in Durham called the 3 Tuns.

They married in August 1959 at the Elvet Methodist Church and have two sons called Neil and David, both of whom live in Nottingham.

Anne, 84, and Doug, 89, are happy and content at being married for 60 years and are thrilled to have received a card from the Queen.

Anne says: “I have been happily married to Doug for 60 years and we have a wonderful life together. To celebrate this milestone at Ruddington Manor, our new home, and receive a card from the Queen really is great.”

Doug adds: “We have only been at Ruddington Manor for nine months, but they organised a super celebration for our diamond wedding anniversary and made us feel very special. Our son lives close by and watched Ruddington Manor being built. Once open, he came to visit and was so impressed, he believed it would be a lovely home for Anne and myself, and it really is.”

Amy Simpson, activities coordinator at Ruddington Manor, says: “It is always nice to celebrate special occasions in the home, marking these milestones with our residents. Anne and Doug’s diamond wedding anniversary was a lovely event, which was enjoyed by the couple themselves, as well as other residents and staff.”
