Care Group Adds Weight To Dementia Campaign

Liz WalkerA major national campaign to help fight dementia has been given support by care group Caring Hands.

The staff of the group – with a network of offices across the North West – is supporting the nationwide Dementia Friends programme across the region.

The Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends initiative aims to make everyday life better for people with the condition, and has received a huge boost with high-profile celebrity support including pop stars Chris Martin and Lily Allen and  TV’s Alesha Dixon.

A new online video will also help people understand a bit more about what it is like to have dementia and what can be done to make a difference to people living with the condition.

Liz Walker, Director of Care at Caring Hands, said: “We are committed to supporting the Alzheimer’s Society campaign, and as an employer in the care sector we believe we should be doing everything we can.

“Our employees are committed to this, and we have those who are already Dementia Friends and others who are signing up to it.”

Caring Hands recently launched its Retirement Solutions advice service which offers guidance in all matters of planning for elderly people and their relatives for the future.

With its dedicated dementia service, the group also offers domiciliary services across the North West including personal care, respite care, night care, live-in care and holiday care from offices in Preston, Penwortham and Lytham.

Dementia affects 820,000 people in the UK. 25 million of the UK population have a close friend or family member with dementia. As well as the huge personal cost, dementia costs the UK economy £23 billion.

Since being launched in February 2013, more than 100,000 people have become Dementia Friends through face-to-face information sessions, with a further 400,000 people pledged to become Dementia Friends through businesses.

Caring Hands care services are delivered by a team of highly-trained qualified staff who are all put through the Caring Hands Training Academy to ensure the very highest standards of best practice.
