Alex Mayer MP Joins Residents at Thorn Springs Care Home for a Heart-warming Festive Visit

Residents and colleagues at HC-One’s Thorn Springs Care Home in Dunstable, Bedfordshire welcomed Alex Mayer, MP for Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard, for a festive visit on Thursday 11th December.

The visit provided an opportunity for the MP to gain a first-hand understanding of the role Thorn Springs plays within the local community, including its strong links with neighbouring charities. Staff were delighted to showcase the home’s welcoming atmosphere, strong sense of identity and the supportive environment in which residents live.

Alex Mayer MP spent time speaking with a couple of residents and members of the team to learn more about daily life at the 66-bed home, which provides both residential and residential dementia care. During the visit, the team also highlighted Thorn Springs’ role as a community hub, including its support for the Salvation Army Toy Appeal.

The MP praised the care home’s efforts in supporting the appeal, with Thorn Springs becoming a festive drop-off point for donations.

The generous contributions collected from residents, colleagues and members of the local community are now being delivered to children in need across Dunstable and Houghton Regis in the run-up to Christmas.

Katie Hughes, Home Manager at Thorn Springs Care Home, said:
“Welcoming Alex Mayer MP into our home was a wonderful opportunity for our residents and team. Our residents loved having the chance to share their experiences and show Alex what makes our home so special. The team works incredibly hard to provide kind, personalised care every day, and it means a great deal to have that recognised. We are proud to be such an active part of the local community, especially during the festive season.”

Alex Mayer, MP for Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard, commented:
“A huge thank you to everyone for their enthusiastic efforts. There is such a friendly and talkative buzz here. Not a silent night but a wonderful chatty one. This impressive effort reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas: generosity and community. Last year I saw first-hand at the Salvation Army just how many toys, games and art supplies were collected, and it’s wonderful to see local people being just as generous again this year. Thank you to everyone who has donated, and to Katie and her fantastic team for their efforts. You’re making a real difference, ensuring children who might otherwise go without can still enjoy the magic of Christmas.”
