A Big Birthday For Cedars’ Resident Rosie
Rosie Lawson, a long-time resident of Cedars Care Home, has just reached an amazing 105 years old.
She celebrated her big day at the Southend-based home surrounded by family and friends. There were balloons, music, love, laughter – and plenty of chocolate cake. Rosie was also surprised and delighted to open a card from Their Majesties, King Charles and Queen Camilla!
Rosie has so far enjoyed an interesting life and a had varied career. During the Second World War she worked in, first, the Royal Enfield small arms factory then a boot and shoe factory. Later, she became caretaker of an office and apartment building in London’s West End where she and her chauffeur husband, Jack, both lived. Rosie’s work brought her into contact with many celebrities over the years, which gave her great pleasure. She is particularly proud of her acquaintance with Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood.
At Cedars Care Home Rosie loves chatting with staff, enjoying the occasional ice lolly and joining in with the home’s many activities.
The secret of her longevity? “Be happy, smile, have fun and enjoy life. Go with the flow and, above all, don’t let other people be horrible to you!” she advises.
“Rosie is such a lovely lady and an inspiration to us all,” says home manager Victor Zingoni. “Here at Cedars, we all like to wish Rosie a heartfelt and very Happy Birthday.”
