Leicester Care Home Manager Scoops Prestigious National Leadership Award

A Leicester-based care home is celebrating after one of its senior nurses was crowned Clinical Nurse Manager of the Year at the prestigious Social Care Leadership Awards in London.

Betty Varghese, Clinical Manager and Deputy Manager at Watermead Rose, part of Macc Care Group, took home the accolade in recognition of her clinical expertise and commitment to supporting both residents and colleagues.

The award celebrates Betty’s hands-on approach to managing complex clinical care, as well as her ability to guide nursing teams through challenging situations and help colleagues build confidence in their own practice.

Betty attended the event at the London Marriott Hotel in Grosvenor Square alongside her colleague Ramona Babet, who was also shortlisted in the same category.

Jamie Chan, Manager at Watermead Rose, said: “Betty is an invaluable member of our team who leads by example and is always willing to share her knowledge to help others develop, so winning this award is just reinforcement of the wonderful things we see her delivering every day.”

“What makes Betty so special is the way she supports those around her, whether that’s guiding a colleague through a difficult clinical decision or taking the time to reassure a family when their loved one’s care needs change. We couldn’t be prouder of her and this recognition is thoroughly deserved.”

Betty has also been instrumental in achieving significant milestones at the home, including a 100% compliance score during Watermead Rose’s 2026 Infection Prevention and Control inspection. She played a key role in preparing colleagues for the assessment, ensuring the team understood the required standards and how to apply them in their day-to-day work.

Her clinical expertise has earned commendation from external healthcare professionals, including the Integrated Care Board (ICB) and local authorities, while she was also named an East Midlands Regional Finalist for Care Assessor of the Year at the Great British Care Awards 2025.

Her approach has been recognised by relatives, with one family member praising her in a carehome.co.uk review, saying: “Such a good home for someone’s final days, and I can’t thank the clinical manager enough for all she does for both my dad and me!”

Jamie also recognised Ramona’s achievements, adding: “To have two of our team shortlisted in such a high profile awards is fantastic, and either one would have been very deserving winners. So a huge shout out to Ramona too, who brings so much to the Watermead team. We’re enormously grateful to have such wonderful carers in our team.”
