Bridlington Care Home to Offer Women-Only Care

A Bridlington care home is to open a dedicated 24-bed community for women as the town’s ageing population increases demand for residential and dementia care.

Red House Care Home, on St Anne’s Road, is preparing to open Bayle, which will provide residential, dementia, respite and end-of-life care exclusively for females.

Women account for around 65% of people living with dementia, while East Riding is expected to see the number of residents aged 65 and over with the condition increase by almost 10,000 by 2040.

Bayle is being developed for women who would prefer to live alongside other females. This is particularly important for some women living with dementia, who can feel more comfortable and settled in that environment.

Residents will receive 24-hour personal support, medication management and care based on their health, personal history, routines and preferences. The community has 24 private bedrooms, many with en-suite facilities, as well as shared living areas and secure outdoor space.

Leah Davies, manager of Red House, said: “Choosing a care home is a major decision for the person moving in and for their family. The surroundings, the other residents and the way care is provided can all affect how comfortable someone feels.

“Some women, particularly those living with dementia, may feel more at ease living alongside other women. Bayle will give women and families in Bridlington another choice, while providing the same individual care and round-the-clock support for which Red House is known.

“We will spend time getting to know every resident, including the way she likes to spend her day, the things that matter to her and the level of help she needs. Our aim is to provide the right support without taking away the choices and routines that help someone remain independent.”

Dedicated Activities Coordinators will provide individual and group activities based on residents’ interests and abilities, with a focus on maintaining social contact, confidence and day-to-day skills.
