Youngsters Make History

Sanctuary Care LogoArtistic youngsters from a Worcester primary school have created pieces of work representing life in the year 2075 to place in a time capsule on the site of a new flagship care home.

Children from St Clement’s C of E Primary School let their imaginations run wild to draw their futuristic creations, placing them in a time capsule on the site of Juniper House Residential and Nursing Home in Oak View Way yesterday (Wednesday 25 March).

Nine-year-olds Ruby McCammon and Leif Johnson and 10-year-old Ben Portlock visited the site, off Bromyard Road, St John’s with an array of artwork created by their classmates, including pieces showing flying cars and fast food outlets serving health food.

Ben described his vision of the future. “I think there will be jet propelled wheelchairs and cars that look like spaceships. I also think there will be a cure for Ebola and cancer.”

Teaching assistant Jo Wells said the children had really enjoyed taking part in the project, returning to the site to mark the opening of the show suite with the time capsule burial.

“They have been letting their imaginations run wild. They are very excited about the thought that their work will be buried in a time capsule,” she said.

Opening this summer Juniper House Residential and Nursing Home will be run by Sanctuary Care and forms part of Sanctuary Group’s £22 million care and supported housing development known as Sanctuary Grove – the organisation’s largest care development to date.

When complete the home will provide residential, nursing and dementia care, with 60 spacious en-suite bedrooms, many of which will overlook the gardens and courtyard, airy lounges and dining rooms.

Stephen Rees, Sanctuary Care’s director of care operations said: “We have been so impressed with the artwork the youngsters have created.

“Juniper House is going to be a beautiful home and we are really looking forward to welcoming the children back when it opens so that they can see how it looks when it’s finished.”

Meanwhile Gareth Scannell, Sanctuary Group’s development manager said: “We are so proud of this home and our wider Sanctuary Grove development, which will provide state of the art care and support services for the people of Worcester. Thank you to the children for showing such enthusiasm and creativity with this project.”
