Worcestershire Care Home Manager Wins Prestigious Dementia Award
A manager of a care home in Evesham has been named the winner of a national care award for her innovative approach to dementia therapy which has dramatically improved the quality of life of those suffering from the illness.
Mary Tasker, who manages The Hawthorns in Evesham, which is owned and operated by Shaw healthcare, won the Best Dementia Continence Care category at the National Dementia Care Awards. She received the award at the ceremony in the Hilton Birmingham Metropole. Ms Tasker has been credited with transforming the home since she started in 2009, helping her team to understand how to ensure residents’ rights and dignity are supported at all times.
The judges said that Ms Tasker demonstrated a passion and in depth understanding of promoting positive approaches to continence care, stating that she takes a holistic and creative approach to understanding the needs of each resident, and her desire to create continence care specialists highlights her ambition to continually improve.
Ms Tasker has also been nominated for Dementia Care Manager Award at the 17th annual National Care Awards, which take place at the end of this month.
Ms Tasker said: “I’m extremely happy to have won this award, which wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for my dedicated team of staff. By providing round the clock care to our residents, we can formulate a personal plan which helps each patient while also allowing them to freedom that they deserve.
“Receiving this award is a great accolade and I intend to continue providing the highest level of care to those who most need it.”
