Wiltshire Heights Care Home Brings Community Together for Glastonbury-inspired Celebrations

A Bradford on Avon Care Home brought the spirit of Glastonbury to residents and the local community as it marked Care Home Open Week with a special series of festival-inspired celebrations.

Wiltshire Heights Care Home, part of Porthaven Care Homes, transformed its home and gardens into Porthavenbury, a free community festival, bringing residents and the local community together for a week–long programme of conversation and celebrations.

Celebrations included live performances from local performers, festival-themed arts and crafts, face painting, garden games, and a special visit from an animal farm. Residents also took part in a seated rave, complete with music, lights, and plenty of dancing, before the week came to a close with a lively Friday finale featuring food, entertainment and festival dress.

The festival theme also brought back special memories across the home, with one resident reflecting on attending one of Glastonbury’s earliest festivals, when tickets cost just £1 and free milk was provided by the farmer. Memories like this offered a glimpse into how different the event was before it became the world-famous festival known today.

Charlie Osgood, home manager at Porthaven’s Wiltshire Heights, said: “Porthavenbury brought such a wonderful atmosphere to Wiltshire Heights. There was music playing, people dancing, colourful outfits throughout the home and something new for residents to look forward to every day.

“Hearing residents share memories of attending Glastonbury when tickets cost just £1 made the week even more special. The residents at our home have lived such interesting lives, and events like this provide them the opportunity to reflect, remember and share those experiences while creating new memories with the people around them.

“Care Home Open Week is also an important opportunity for us to welcome people into our home and show the warmth, friendship and quality of life inside our home. We are so grateful to everyone who joined us and a huge thank you to everyone, including our community partners, who helped make Porthavenbury such a memorable celebration.”
