West Sussex Care Home Shines In Council Catering Audit

A Crawley care home is celebrating after receiving a near-perfect score for its catering operation, following the latest round of annual inspections by West Sussex County Council.

Burley’s Wood care home, in Furnace Green, achieved a score of 98.2% in the audit, carried out each year by West Sussex County Council’s catering team. The Council team, which recently held the accolade of Best service in Britain for its ‘Meals on Wheels’ service, undertakes a thorough inspection, covering areas like food safety, hygiene and nutrition.

Gavin Henderson, head of hotel services for Shaw healthcare across the UK, said; “I’d like to offer our thanks and congratulations to the catering team at Burley’s Wood for all the hard work they’ve put in, especially over the last six months in the face of the pandemic, and I’m really pleased that it has been recognised in the latest Council audit.

“They are still a fairly new team but there’s no doubt that they have bonded really well together. The mealtime experience is such an important factor in ensuring the happiness and wellbeing of all our residents and we are grateful that we have a great team at Burley’s Wood that consistently meet such high standards.”

Head chef, Gemma Humphrey, added; “My team and I feel incredibly proud to have achieved this record score. Food safety and hygiene is paramount, but we are also committed to providing high-quality, freshly prepared meals for our residents, as we know it makes such a difference to their health and enjoyment of life.”
