Wear a Flower Day Marks Spring at Teesside Care Home

WEAR a Flower Day was marked at a Teesside care home by residents and staff – who donned hand-picked and homemade creations.

 Those at Mandale House Care Home, on Acklam Road, Thornaby, have been busy in the garden enjoying the recent sunshine and soaring temperatures.

They picked daffodils to wear in celebration of the late-arrival of Spring and took part in a floral arts and crafts workshop.

They made silk flowers and created a banner to celebrate Wear a Flower Day, which has been put on display in the home.

Resident Valerie McHale said: “The daffodils are late flowering this year, after all the snow. Spring is lovely and we had lots of fun wearing the flowers we made.”

Louise Hawksby, home manager at Mandale House Care Home, said: “Everyone has been so pleased to see the temperature finally rising and some sunshine.

“The residents love to go into the garden during the warmer months but we’ve had to hold off until it felt like Spring finally arrived.

“Wear a Flower Day coincided with the lovely spell we’ve had recently so it was a great opportunity to theme our arts and crafts workshop and pick daffodils.

“Hopefully there’s lots more good weather on the way and we can get out into the garden more.”
