Warrington Care Home Turns Back the Clock for Show-Stopping 80s Summer Party

Residents, relatives and colleagues at Green Park Care Home in Great Sankey, Warrington, turned back the clock earlier this month for an unforgettable 80s-themed summer party – and it was a celebration packed with music, dancing, and plenty of nostalgia.

The home pulled out all the stops for its annual summer celebration, transforming its lounge into a vibrant 80s party venue complete with colourful decorations, a spectacular balloon arch and plenty of photo opportunities.
Residents and visitors weren’t the only ones getting into the spirit of the decade. The care team arrived dressed as some of the era’s most recognisable icons – from Madonna and Cyndi Lauper to Prince, prompting plenty of laughter and compliments from residents and visiting families.

But the real showstopper was the entertainment, with live singer Steven Bloor getting the crowd singing along to some of the biggest hits of the 1980s before a Michael Jackson impersonator took to the floor.

The performance had residents dancing, clapping and singing along, while families joined in the celebrations and helped create a party atmosphere that lasted throughout the afternoon.

Malcolm, a resident at the home, said: ‘I had a smashing time dancing this afternoon – it reminded me of my younger years going dancing. I’m already looking forward to the next party!’

Resident Pauline was full of praise for the care team’s efforts, saying: ‘I loved the outfits and can’t believe how amazing everyone looked.’

Families were also quick to praise the entertainment, with many commenting on how good singer Steven was.

The choice of theme proved particularly popular among Green Park’s residents, with the care home now welcoming several younger residents who have their own memories and connections to the decade’s music and culture.

For the care team at Green Park, however, the party was about much more than dressing up and dancing. It was an opportunity to bring everyone together, celebrate shared memories and create new ones.

Lisa, Activities coordinator at the home, said: ‘We wanted this to be a party that everyone could enjoy, and seeing the lounge full of residents, families and colleagues singing and dancing together was fantastic.

We really went for it with the 80s theme this year – the decorations, costumes and entertainment – and the residents loved it. There was such a brilliant atmosphere, and it was wonderful to see everyone joining in.
Days like this are what care home life is all about. It’s about having fun, sharing experiences and creating moments that residents and their families can treasure.’
