VE Day Celebrations At Riverdale Court

During the current lockdown with all care homes in isolation from visitors to protect the residents and care staff, events and activities in care homes have required a different approach, with plenty of outside the box thinking during these uncertain times. One thing that is for certain are the events and activities across Avante Care & Support’s care homes have not stopped and VE day was certainly an event not to be missed.

Riverdale Court’s VE day celebrations opened with guest singer Peggy singing beautifully to the residents and staff. socially distanced within the gardens of the home.

The afternoon entertainment kicked off with a BBQ party supported by Julie and Sarah, members of the community-based project group, Progressive Welling, who kindly provided VE day party paraphernalia.

During the party, care staff from the domestic team, and Rowan and Cherry suites dressed as land girls and nurses whilst the activities team dressed up in vintage tea dresses.

Nicolas Kee Mew, Home Manager said, ‘It was a real team effort, all the staff were involved and we had a great time celebrating VE day. It has been very hard for residents to not have visits from their family members and loved ones so we are doing our very best to help fill this void with lots of fun and laughter’.

One resident said ‘I’ve had such a lovely day today, it was just the boost I needed’

Nicolas also arranged for the whole event to be live streamed to family members to view throughout the day, providing that feel of togetherness during the celebrations.

Nicolas said, ‘It was the first time Riverdale had done a live stream and it was a great success. We had messages from loved ones all over the world with a total of 7369 views during the live stream’.
