Surrey Care Home Celebrates International Dog Day with Paw-sitive Companionship

Adelaide House Care Home in Walton-on-Thames celebrated International Dog Day [26 August 2025], by welcoming dogs, their owners, and therapy animals to join residents and colleagues for a heartwarming day of togetherness.

The event was filled with wagging tails, warm cuddles, and moments of joy as residents enjoyed the company of several much-loved companions, including Gracie, a visiting therapy dog; Lucky, a resident’s dog; and even Bluey, a cuddly husky toy who joined the fun. The home also extended a special thank you to Smithy, the therapy dog who visits Adelaide House regularly, bringing smiles and comfort to everyone.

These gentle companions do far more than brighten the day, they provide emotional support, comfort, and companionship that make a meaningful difference to residents’ wellbeing. Whether through a quiet moment of connection or a cheerful visit that lifts spirits, therapy dogs play a vital role in enhancing life at Adelaide House.

Wellbeing Coordinator at HC-One’s Adelaide House Care Home, Ghody John Dano, said:
“The joy and calm that therapy dogs bring to our home is truly priceless. Seeing our residents light up when the dogs arrive is incredibly special, and we are deeply grateful to the dedicated handlers and volunteers who make this possible.

“Today, we not only celebrated our furry friends but also the incredible bond they share with us. We are proud to mark this day and thank everyone who joined us in making a difference, one paw at a time.”
