Sunrise Senior Living And Gracewell Healthcare Celebrates Three Shortlistings At National Awards

Sunrise Senior Living and Gracewell Healthcare are celebrating after being named finalists in three categories at the prestigious National Dementia Care Awards 2017.

Sunrise of Eastbourne was shortlisted in two categories with Fiona White, the General Manager at Sunrise of Eastbourne, being named a finalist in the Inspiring Leader category in recognition of her ability to effectively support and motivate her team.

Sunrise of Eastbourne’s ‘Reminiscence Neighbourhood’ Team also earned their spot as a finalist in the Best Dementia Team category.

The Reminiscence Neighbourhood team follow Sunrise Senior Living’s ‘Live with Purpose’ activity model which ensures that all activities provide a spectrum of opportunities which encompass Artistry; Action; Learning; Reflection; Melody; Anticipation; Generosity and, Legacy. Examples of their innovative work include setting up the Cavendish Store – an onsite shop staffed by residents with dementia. The team have created postcards which can be ‘sold’ to residents and sent to family and friends – with residents taking turns to be the post-person for the day.

Meanwhile, Mel Barden, an Activities Coordinator at Gracewell of Camberley, was shortlisted in the Best Activities Coordinator category in recognition of her hard-work in providing varied and enjoyable activities for each of the residents.

Winners of the National Dementia Care Awards will be presented with their trophies by John Middleton at the high-profile Gala Night held on Thursday 9th November at Doncaster Racecourse attended by over 400 guests
