Strong Life Care Triples in Size Following 18 Care Home Portfolio Acquisition

Care provider Strong Life Care has acquired 18 purpose-built care homes from Maria Mallaband Care Homes across Yorkshire & Humber, the North East, the North West, the East Midlands and Norfolk, tripling the size of its business and quadrupling its annual turnover.

The  transaction takes the Yorkshire-based, family-owned operator to more than 2,000 employees and 1,500 beds, marking a major step in its ambition to become the UK’s Best, Biggest and Most Trusted Care Brand.

The acquisition follows significant investment in senior leadership, operational infrastructure and digital technology, with further acquisitions already in the pipeline.

Founded in 2010 by Harpreet Banwait after his family struggled to find culturally appropriate care for his grandfather, Strong Life Care has grown from a single care home into a major independent operator.

Banwait was the company’s first employee, while his grandfather was its first resident, living happily in the family’s first care home until the age of 106.

Harpreet Banwait, Chairman and Founder of Strong Life Care, said: “This is a game-changing moment for Strong Life Care. We have tripled the size of our business and quadrupled our turnover in one landmark transaction.

“But the story behind our growth is deeply personal.

“I founded Strong Life Care in 2010 because my family couldn’t find a culturally appropriate care home for my grandfather. I was employee number one, and my grandfather was resident number one.

“He lived happily in our family’s first care home until the remarkable age of 106. That experience shaped everything we stand for today.

“Sixteen years later, we have more than 2,000 colleagues and 1,500 beds, but our founding purpose remains unchanged: to provide the kind of care we would want for our own families.”

As part of its strategy to attract top-tier talent, the Group headhunted James Hopkins as its new Chief Executive Officer and recruited two Regional Managers, a Head of Quality and Compliance, and a Head of Procurement.

Banwait said: “We didn’t wait until this acquisition was completed to start preparing for growth. We invested ahead of the curve.

“We have been deliberate about bringing exceptional people into our organisation, strengthening our leadership team and building the infrastructure required to operate at a much greater scale.

“James Hopkins joining us as CEO is an important part of that journey, alongside our investment in regional operations, quality, compliance, procurement, HR and finance.

“We have also invested heavily in technology and systems because our ambition is not simply to acquire more care homes. It is to build a world-class care organisation with the people, systems and culture to deliver outstanding care at scale.”

Through its philanthropic arm, the Banwait Foundation, the family and its businesses have contributed more than £200,000 to charitable causes since the Foundation was established approximately two years ago, without external fundraising.

The Foundation’s ambition is to increase charitable giving to £1 million annually and beyond.

Banwait added: “We are building a generational business, not something designed for a short-term exit.

“We want to create businesses that future generations will be proud of, not just because of their size or success, but because of the difference they make.

“Strong Life Care started with one grandfather and one family’s determination to do the right thing. That will always be our foundation, no matter how big we become.”
