Staff Members at Fleet Hall Care Home Trek 26 Miles for Alzheimer’s Society

Three devoted staff members from Fleet Hall Care Home have raised over £1,400 for Alzheimer’s Society after completing the Trek26 Suffolk Coast 2025 on Saturday 2nd August.

Louise Smith, Melody Laver-Snape and Sarah Orr, all passionate members of the team at the Avery Healthcare-owned home in Fleet, enjoyed views of stunning coastal villages and nature reserves during the nine-hour trek.

The walk was an inclusive fundraising event, bringing together people of all abilities in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.

Approximately 900,000 people in the UK are living with dementia, with Alzheimer’s disease being the most common form.

Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity and works to fund research to find a cure for dementia and support people living with dementia.

Louise Smith, General Manager at Fleet Hall Care Home, said, “I’m incredibly proud of my team and what we achieved together during the trek. Taking part in this challenge for Alzheimer’s Society showed just how much we can accomplish when we pull together to make a difference.”

The team received immense support from the community in Fleet, hosting a local pub quiz to raise funds and awareness for the charity.

Resident Patricia Saville stated, “It’s amazing what you girls have done for a charity close to all our hearts, what an achievement!” Patricia has seen the effects of dementia first-hand, giving her an emotional connection to the cause.

Sarah Orr, Dementia Care Manager at Fleet Hall Care Home, is a passionate advocate for dementia care, stating her day-to-day experiences supporting residents living with the condition encouraged her to take on the challenge.

Speaking of the experience, Melody Laver-Snape, Client Liaison Manager at Fleet Hall Care Home, stated, “Taking part in Trek26 Suffolk Coast was an unforgettable experience. It was a tough challenge, but knowing we were walking for such an important cause kept us going. I’m so proud of what we achieved together in support of the Alzheimer’s Society.”
