St Peter’s Hospice Backs National Campaign to Highlight Local Impact of Gifts in Wills
Bristol’s St Peter’s Hospice is supporting a national campaign encouraging people to consider leaving a gift to their local hospice in their Will.
Hospice UK’s Gifts in Wills campaign runs from September 14 to 30 with St Peter’s joining hospices across the country to highlight the the breadth and depth of hospice services, and the difference legacy gifts can make to people living with a life-limiting illness and their families.
“Gifts in Wills play a vital role in helping St Peter’s Hospice continue to provide care to local people,” said Matthew Crothers, Legacy Manager at St Peter’s.
These gifts pay for the care of 1 in 5 of our patients, and with our new strategy to reach more people who need our care, and earlier in their diagnosis, this kind of long-term support is more important than ever.
“A gift in your Will is such a simple way to help secure the future of hospice care, without having to give anything away today. “It’s a lasting gift to your community and can help ensure local families have access to the care and support they need for years to come.”
New data from Hospice UK shows that gifts in Wills fund the equivalent of 400,000 nights of hospice care every year, providing around 20% of hospice income and helping secure vital care for future generations.
“Our ageing population means demand for hospice care will only continue to grow, so it’s vital that we do what we can to secure hospice care now,” said Catherine Bosworth, director of income generation and grants at Hospice UK.
“Gifts of any size can make a significant difference; just £30 can fund a home care visit, £200 a specialist palliative care visit, it all helps hospices be there for people who need them.”
Across the UK, 82% of palliative care is delivered outside inpatient units, while demand is expected to increase by 25% by 2048, at a time when hospices face increasing financial pressures and need to raise more than £3.8 million every day to keep their services running.
St Peter’s Hospice is Bristol’s only adult Hospice, supporting patients and their families in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. It costs around £30,000 every day to run the Hospice, so the charity relies on income from its shops, fundraising events and gifts in wills.
