St Andrew’s Day Celebrations At Teesside Care Home

StAndrewsBAGPIPES were skirling at a Teesside care home as St Andrew’s Day was celebrated with traditional Scottish fare.

Haggis was enjoyed by residents at Briarwood Care Home, on Normanby Road, Middlesbrough, while they listened to piper Paul Mack play.

The home’s activities coordinator, Norma Dobie brought the haggis back from her hometown in Ayrshire, south-west Scotland, following a recent visit.

Resident John Kelly preceded the piper into the dining room with the haggis before it was served to residents.

Norma said: “I loved to hear the pipes. They made me want to get up and dance.”

Julie Forster, home manager at Briarwood Care Home, said: “Our residents thought the piper was brilliant with resident Patricia Thomas getting up to have a dance.

“They also really enjoyed the haggis and thought it tasted delicious. Everyone had a great time celebrating St Andrew’s Day.”
