Specialist care provider, Cornerstone Healthcare, has awarded staff financial bonuses as a ‘thank you’ for their dedication and hard work during the lockdown period.
Frontline workers at the group’s two homes in Hampshire have been given bonuses totalling £400 thus far, with more initiatives to follow, in recognition of their commitment to the wellbeing of residents at South Africa Lodge in Waterlooville and Kitnocks House in Curdridge.
Cornerstone’s CEO, Johann van Zyl, said;
“Everyone has worked extremely hard during the last six months. But it’s been most challenging for our care and nursing staff who’ve had to wear full PPE, often in very hot weather, and who’ve helped our residents and their families to understand the changes we’ve had to impose to keep them safe.”
This isn’t the first recognition Johann has given his staff. He took out a double page advert in local press thanking all of the group’s 240 workers and he changed the branding outside both homes to show the community his appreciation of Cornerstone’s ‘heroes’.
Managers at the homes have also organised free events for staff to easily get food and drink on busy shifts and held a small ceremony in place of staff being able to attend the Care Home Awards in which the group was ‘highly commended’ in two categories.
“Our efforts are far from over as rates of infection rise again in the communities around us,” said Johann. “The effects of this will be on top of the impact of annual winter illnesses.
“We know our staff will continue to provide the best care possible and I hope we have shown them how much that is appreciated.”
