On Friday 23 October, Runwood Homes residential care homes will all take part in a special ‘A Toast to Life with Afternoon Tea’ event.
The nationwide groups’ dedicated Wellbeing and Dementia Services team, together with home managers, have devised a special commemorative day to celebrate life and remember those who have passed.
Residents across the 73 care homes, which specialise in dementia care, will be able to take part in a range of activities dedicated to the day, which have been arranged at home level in consultation with the people who live and work there, to create a truly bespoke day that really means something to them. This may include planting Forget Me Not seeds or a memorial tree, forming a remembrance garden, releasing balloons into the sky, writing a poem or creating a book of memories together in small groups.
Residents will be supported to share stories as well as fond thoughts and feelings about family and friends, and pay tribute to those past and present. The event will finish nicely with a raising a glass, or a cuppa, as a toast to life, during a what hopes to be a very special and memorable Afternoon Tea celebration, with a selection delicious cakes and sandwiches.
