Residents At Chasefield House Have Joined An Arts Scheme With Children At A Local Primary School
Paint Pals – which is run by Alive! – involves six of the home’s residents swapping artworks and information about themselves with pupils from Fishponds Academy in Bristol. The project creates links between older people in care homes and children in local primary schools.
“It’s something out of the ordinary for residents. They love it!,” says Sarah, a Support Worker at Chasefield House.
Residents at the home all paint or draw a picture and write about themselves and what they have been up to on the back of it during regular workshops held by Alive!. A member of staff from the organisation delivers the material to Fishponds Academy, before bringing back artwork and letters from students who the residents are paired up with.
Students also visit Chasefield House to share art workshops and have a chat with residents.
“The project makes residents feel like they’re creating art for a reason. They can really see the rewards from doing it,” adds Sarah.
