Poole Care Home Residents Left Spellbound By School Pupils’ Talent Show

Care home residents in Poole were left in awe and amazement after being invited to visit their local school’s talent show.

Pupils from Cornerstone Academy in Hamworthy encouraged residents from Dorset House care home, on Coles Avenue in Hamworthy, to join them for the special event which featured children performing dance routines, singing performances, magic tricks, and cookery demonstrations.

Following the special show, which was designed especially for the Dorset House residents, the children sat down with the care home residents to talk about what their school life is like, what their favourite subjects are as well as their hobbies, and they compared their school experiences with the residents.

Sam Baker, Activities Lead at Dorset House care home, said:

“Our day at Cornerstone Academy was fantastic and our residents have been talking about it ever since. They were so impressed with the talents of the students, and we cannot thank the pupils and staff enough for the hospitality that they showed to us, and for the lovely way that the pupils interacted with our residents. It was showstopping from the moment we arrived through to the moment we headed back to Dorset House.”

The residents and pupils also enjoyed chatting over lunch together. The school’s choir has previously visited Dorset House care home to perform for the residents, as part of the care home’s efforts to build links in the local community.

Iris, a Dorset House resident, said: “I couldn’t believe how fantastic everyone was and I loved being able to have a sing and a dance with the students. It was so nice to get to know them all.”
