Platinum Joy For Peggy And Stanley

Peggy and Stanley Dawson celebrating their wedding anniversaryA card from the Queen topped the celebrations at a Lancashire care home as resident Margaret Dawson marked her platinum wedding anniversary.

Margaret, 88, of Springhill Care Home, Accrington, celebrated 70 years of marriage to husband Stanley surrounded by family and friends at a special party thrown in their honour.

The message of congratulations from the Queen arrived from Buckingham Palace on the day of the party, in the form of a commemorative card offering the couple best wishes on their milestone.

Peggy – as she’s known around Springhill – married Stanley Dawson in Blackburn Registry Office on March 6 in 1945, during the final months of the Second World War.

Peggy said: “It was totally unexpected to get a card from the Queen, a real surprise. It was a special day and great to see friends and family as well.”

The couple, of Darwen, Lancashire, were also presented with a bouquet of flowers and a special cake as staff and friends looked on at the get-together.

Recently, Springhill Care Home scored 100 per cent satisfaction for standards of care provided in the national Your Care Rating survey, the country’s largest and most authoritative survey of care home residents.
