Peter Is Granted ‘A Dream Come True’ Thanks To Magnificent Carer
After 66-years of supporting Bristol Rovers, born and bred Bristolian Peter Francis, 74, will watch possibly one of his last football matches from box number one at The Memorial Stadium in Horfield, Bristol. Peter will also have a special lunch with the Directors of the club and meet the entire Rover’s football team before kick off, all thanks to his wonderful carer.
Peter’s health is sadly quickly deteriorating, so Tracy, a carer at Brunelcare, has gone above and beyond to make Peter’s last few months as special as they can be. After discovering Pete’s obsession with the team, Tracy pulled out all the stops to get Peter his dream away day. She contacted Bristol Rovers Facebook page, sent a number of emails and made numerous telephone calls until she received a call from Chief Executive Officer Adam Tutton, inviting Peter and his best friend, Brian, to the next home game!
Tracy Said: “I heard all about Peter’s obsession with Rovers and I knew I wanted to surprise him! I emailed and called several numbers and much to my surprise I had a call from Adam on Saturday night, inviting Peter and a friend to the match on Saturday 25th January. I couldn’t wait to get into work and tell him the good news!”
Peter has seen Bristol Rovers play over 200 football matches at home and away and has even traveled to Carlisle to support the blues. Brian would often ride his bike or catch the train to football matches when he was younger and has even gone on family holidays to Cornwall and travelled back to Bristol to support his team!
Peter has been a resident with Brunelcare’s Orchard Court for one month now under the care of Tracy McConnell, who has worked at Brunelcare’s Reablement centre for over one year.
Peter said: “I couldn’t believe it when Tracy told me, it’s honestly a dream come true. I’ve been supporting Rovers for 66-years and went to my first match when I was just 8-years-old, in 1954. I’ve been a season ticket holder for over 55-years. Going to see Rovers home or away was a way of life for me, it’s in my blood – we’d always get fish and chips after the match, whether we lost, won or drew.”
Peter will watch Bristol Rovers play Fleetwood Town on Saturday 25th January 2020 with his best friend Brian, and the pair even have a reserved car parking space just for them!
Adam Tutton, Bristol Rovers Chief Executive Officer said: “All of us at Bristol Rovers Football Club are delighted to be welcoming Brunelcare resident Peter Francis to join us for our match against Fleetwood Town. We heard that Peter was a lifelong Bristol Rovers fan and are delighted to be able to offer him the opportunity to join us in our Boardroom and meet some of the First team before kick off. We hope this will be a very memorable day for Peter.”
