Otterbourne Care Home Residents Enjoy Trip to Isle of Wight Thanks to Abseilers
A group of residents and team members from Brendoncare Otterbourne Hill care home have their daredevil colleagues to thank for their visit to the Isle of Wight.
Four members of the Otterbourne Hill staff abseiled down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth last month to raise funds for their trip across the Solent.
On Tuesday (8th September), the eight residents and six team members sailed from Southampton to East Cowes, visiting Alum Bay, marvelling at the Needles before going on to Shanklin to enjoy the sea views.
Commenting on the visit, Leeanne Broyd, Brendoncare Otterbourne Hill’s Wellbeing Supervisor said: “It was a long day for all of us but it was great fun. One resident used to live in Shanklin and walked along the front every day. Another resident has not stopped smiling and keeps telling us how much she enjoyed the day.”
Leeanne added: “We’re sorry the abseilers did not get to enjoy the residents’ reactions. They don’t realise how amazing they all are to have raised the funds to make this outing possible.”
The abseilers were Deputy Manager Kan Leung, senior carer Sam Thirlwell, maintenance team member James Gibbons and activities coordinator, Enda Smyth.
Following the outing’s success, they hope to return to the Isle of Wight next spring using the remaining funds raised by the abseilers.
